How Ellansé® Stimulates Collagen

Published on Thursday 5th of January 2017

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and unfortunately, due to the wear and tear we put ourselves through and the gradual loss of collagen, it displays some of the biggest tell-tale signs of ageing. From dry, loose skin to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, our skin tells it all. While it’s sometimes hard to beat bad habits, like not wearing sun protection every day or occasionally going to bed with makeup on, there is another way to restore a more youthful appearance and give your skin a helping hand.

Ellansé® – a dermal filler with a difference

Ellansé® can be used to reduce the appearance of marionette lines, nasolabial folds and create definition in the cheeks, jawline and chin. It can also be used to rejuvenate the brow and temple area as well as reshape the nose, which is sometimes called liquid or non-surgical rhinoplasty. How does it do this? Ellansé®, like other fillers, creates instant volume but it also actively stimulates collagen production in your skin. Why is this so important? Stimulating collagen is a very effective way to treat the underlying causes of facial ageing. Collagen is one of your skin’s main structural proteins and as we age our ability to produce it reduces. As the level of collagen in your skin decreases you will start to notice a loss of elasticity and volume. This results in the lines, wrinkles and folds that age your appearance.

Ellansé® is a dual action injectable and therefore the effects that you get are two fold. Ellansé® is made up of two components polycaprolactone(PCL) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC). PCL has been used for years in orthopaedic surgery and is the part of Ellansé® that is responsible for stimulating collagen production. CMC is a gel that carries the PCL while it is injected. It acts a filler until the PLC starts to stimulate your body’s own collagen production.

This pairing means you get an instant result from the initial injection, which is followed over time by the production of collagen in your skin. It provides long lasting, natural looking results, however the length of the results depends on the type of Ellansé® used. There are four products in the Ellansé® range that last between one and four years. Once any product from the product range has been injected it is fully resorbed into your body and has a uniform degradation process. This means that it will always break down evenly so you won’t have lumps or look distorted.

There are a range of different surgical and non-surgical anti-ageing procedures out there, but it is important to select the one that is right for you.
